A Legendary Turtle In A Lake In Hanoi.

A shrine near the entrance to the Turtle Lake showed signs of recent use from the remains of joss sticks. The shrine built on the top of a pile of rocks was not easily accessible. All the inscriptions on the Turtle Lake Shrine were in Chinese characters.

We crossed the wooden bridge to the island in the Turtle Lake. A bronze model of a Turtle, protected by a glass case, was on display. The Turtle Lake area has many attractions including a Water Puppet Theatre. There are many small restaurants and a wide variety of street markets within easy walking distance from the Turtle Lake.

The Turtle Lake has its own legend of the sword. The legendary "Excalibur" given to King Arthur by the Lady Of The Lake, is similar to the legend of Turtle Lake, where the keeper of the sword is a Giant Turtle. It is said that when danger threatens the country the keeper will surface on the Turtle Lake bearing the sword on its shell.

This Legendary Horse was on the right hand side panel of the entrance gate to the Turtle Lake island. Many countries have their fair share of legends and omens, and Vietnam is no exception. In Langson the fortunes of the country appeared to be foretold by the amount of water flowing through a cave. At the time of our visit there, the stream had almost dried up.
